The Stirling Road Plaza Near NSU Now Has Two Very Different Barbecues a Few Doors Apart

Brisket smoked over pecan wood is now coming out of 6819 Stirling Road, the storefront Kung Fu Tea's listings used to show. Next door at 6815, a Michigan wing chain has finally opened its first South Florida shop after roughly four years of waiting. A few doors east, Hong's BBQ is still roasting Chinese-style pork.

All three sit in The Shoppes at Stirling Place. It's an early-2000s neighborhood center on the north side of Stirling Road, just east of University Drive and south of Nova Southeastern University. If you know it as the place for produce, a vet visit or a dance class, it's worth another look. Between late summer and mid-October 2026, two openings changed what this strip offers at lunch.

Two first-in-the-market openings, one wall apart

Southern Luv BBQ went into soft opening at 6819 Stirling Road and announced it on September 29, 2026. It's the brand's first restaurant in Broward County. The company first set the grand opening for Saturday, October 17, then moved it up to Friday, October 16 at 4 p.m. The concept is fast-casual Southern barbecue founded in Tampa by Chef Essi Tadrus. The Davie location is run by franchisee Dark Mountain LLC.

Wing Snob is its new neighbor at 6815 Stirling Road. The Michigan-based chain picked this plaza for its South Florida debut, which is separate from its earlier move into the Tampa Bay market. Hoodline reported in August that the shop expected to open around August 20, 2026. The chain's Davie location page now shows full hours and online ordering.

Two franchise brands, both making their first appearance in this market, opened in adjoining storefronts of one Davie strip within about six weeks of each other.

Four years from site selection to the first wing

Wing Snob's opening took a long time, and the timeline shows how this plaza ended up on a franchise map. In April 2022 the Boca Raton Tribune reported that the chain's South Florida area developer had chosen 6815 Stirling Road as its first location. That deal with Paterson Acquisition Group covered up to 20 franchise locations across Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. The announcement described a takeout- and delivery-heavy model.

According to Hoodline, which credited earlier reporting by Business Debut, the Davie franchise agreement was signed in July 2024, and construction delays stretched the build-out past 14 months. WhatNow reported that Quality Wings LLC had filed permits for the address.

The location helps explain why a chain would hold out that long for this storefront. The center's leasing materials count about 34,000 vehicles a day on this stretch of Stirling Road, with Nova Southeastern directly to the north. Those materials also show Seminole Hard Rock, Target, Home Depot and Publix as nearby landmarks. Wing Snob's menu covers traditional and boneless wings, tenders, chicken sandwiches, crispy chicken minis and cauliflower wings. The chain says its wings are fresh and never frozen, with a list of sauces and dry rubs. It works as well for a late order as it does for a sit-down meal.

Two barbecues, two traditions

Southern Luv's arrival gives the plaza two barbecue restaurants a few doors apart, and they have little in common beyond the word.

Hong's BBQ at 6831 Stirling Road is known for Chinese-style roasted pork. It takes orders online and, as of this week, posts hours of 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Southern Luv works from a different playbook. Brisket and chicken are hand-trimmed and smoked over pecan wood, and the sauces and sides are made from scratch, down to the barbecue potato chips. The menu borrows from Texas, Georgia, the Carolinas, Alabama, Kansas, Tennessee and Florida. The Davie store also adds flatbreads, desserts and a kids' meal. The Davie menu page lists prices, and they run lower than the "destination barbecue" label might suggest:

Order Price at the Davie location
Summer Luv sausage sandwich $8.75
Cuban, pulled pork with ham and Swiss $14.25
Notorious P.I.G. mac bowl $14.25
Brisket Cuban $16.75
1 meat, 2 sides platter $15.75
3 meats, 2 sides platter $25.00
Half rack St. Louis ribs $20.75
Full rack St. Louis ribs $41.75
Breakfast sandwiches $6.75 to $9.50
Lil Luv kids meal $7.50

The menu says the ribs are smoked daily until they sell out, so a late-evening ribs order may not always be possible. The breakfast sandwiches are the less obvious find. A brisket-and-egg KC Masterpiece costs $9.50. The restaurant opens at 10 a.m. daily.

What the newcomers joined

The two chains didn't land in an empty strip. They moved into a block of independents and long-running tenants that already covered breakfast, bakery, produce and dessert. Going east from the new openings:

Address Business What it is
6815 Stirling Rd Wing Snob Wings, tenders, sauces and rubs; Mon–Thu 11 a.m.–10 p.m., Fri–Sat until midnight, Sun until 9 p.m.
6819 Stirling Rd Southern Luv BBQ Pecan-smoked barbecue and Cubans; daily 10 a.m.–10 p.m.
6831 Stirling Rd Hong's BBQ Chinese-style roasted pork
6847 Stirling Rd Don Pan Venezuelan bakery-café with arepas, empanadas, cachitos and tequeños
6859 Stirling Rd Carvel Ice cream, Carvelanche, cakes, shakes and sundaes
6871 Stirling Rd Brothers Farmers Market of Davie Seasonal and organic produce, deli prepared foods, nuts, local honey and flowers
6999 Stirling Rd Harvest Cafe Breakfast and lunch, from omelettes and pancakes to wraps and burgers

Not everything from the plaza's past has lasted. British Marketplace at 6923 Stirling Road sold Cadbury, meat pies, sausage rolls, tea and pasties, and it is now listed as closed. The 6819 space that Southern Luv now fills was most recently listed as Kung Fu Tea. Tenants come and go, as they do in any strip this age. Turnover this fall brought in two new kitchens rather than leaving empty storefronts.

One parking lot now covers a full day of eating. You can start with arepas and coffee at Don Pan, pick up produce and local honey at Brothers, order a brisket Cuban or a box of roast pork for lunch, and finish with a Carvel cone. Wing Snob's weekend hours keep the west end of the strip open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Not many lunch spots near University and Stirling stay open that late.

Before you go

  1. Call Southern Luv to order ahead. Online ordering for the Davie location isn't live yet. The restaurant asks customers to order at the counter or call (954) 685-8081. Catering is available too.
  2. Check Brothers Farmers Market's hours before a late stop. Posted closing times differ from one listing to the next, ranging from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. depending on the day.
  3. Use Harvest Cafe's site for delivery. Harvest Cafe's site links straight to DoorDash ordering for its breakfast and lunch menu.
  4. Plan Sunday wings for earlier in the evening. Wing Snob closes at 9 p.m. on Sundays, compared with midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
  5. Bring the dog's appointment along. Barker's Lane, the pet groomer at 6963 Stirling Road, is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., so a grooming drop-off fits around lunch.

We follow openings like these on Stirling Road because they show how Davie is changing block by block, and the same local knowledge goes into how we market a home a few streets away.
